What is with PDF that lecturers just love to post instead of the original PPT? Compatibility? Why not upload both versions? Copyright? Lecturer's lecture notes are NUS property, not personal property.

OT: Deciding whether to go for Office 2003 or Office 2007? Go for Office 2003. The interface for Office 2007 is way way different from Office 2003. What's more, there is no way to switch to the Office 2003 view.

- Not providing answers to exams and/or tutorials
Common excuses:
- "We want you to discuss the answers".
- "Giving model answers may make you think that this is the strict answer"
Translated, in my opinion
- "There are so many answers that we feel it would take too much of our precious time"
- "There are many answers for this. So we feel it is better that you write / record / memorize the words spoken / displayed during the tutorials so that each of you get your own unique idea of the answer"
Get the answers during the tutorial. No written answers will be released.
- Not randomly assigning project groups
Some of you may not agree with me. That's probably because you already have mates that are taking the same modules as you. However, this introduces a problem. The saying 'Birds of a feather flock together' explains the problem.

This means spending time to post in a forum (citing marketing words like ' I cannot SU this module', 'have taken related modules before', 'cap 4.5+!!!', etc) and making guesswork of whether a topic poster has already formed their group - not many people update their thread if their group has been formed.
- Providing lectu__ notes with bla__ spaces
Combine this with the PDF problem mentioned above and you either MUST print out the lecture notes, or write the answers in a separate sheet somewhere.

Tip: Most lecturers change their lecture notes after going through a lecture so I tend to print the PPTs only before a major exam. Furthermore, you can modify the lecture notes with your own notes. Provided, the lecturer. Uploads. In. Powerpoint.
Tip: You can print 16 slides per page using a combination of Foxit Reader and PDF Creator. They're really not that small unless the lecturer squeezes many points in one slide. In fact, sometimes I print 25 slides per page, if the slides consist of mostly few words in big font (e.g. Catherine Tay's BSP1004 slides).
- Marks for acting stupid, being talkative or just asking wild questions
Translated into real world - "Class Participation". This is a great boon for those people who are not afraid of stares, making mistakes, saying stupid things and things that others may not understand. Oops, did I just admit something about myself?

Maybe NUS is training us to be more willing to talk. Well, I think this method only serves to reward people who are not afraid of talking and since marks are given for talking, some people may be more reluctant (rather than more eager) due to the fighting for tutor's attention and marks.

U mean u can get Office 2007 fr SoC website? Is this the one: "Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 (English)"?

Lecture sides in pdf rather than ppt to me is not a problem, cos I prefer to add in notes thru writing rather than typing.
Hmm... regarding "randomly assigning project groups", I don't mind. Cos I don't really know many ppl in soc tt I can invite as project mates... And u can get the chance to mix with different kind of ppl, may be benefical.

Sorry, I just found out the full office 2007 (or even Adobe) is not there. so please disregard that info.
Foxit allows more customization in the print options compared to Adobe.

I still remembered u r the one who recommended me Foxit Reader...
Well i thought of writing a review on it, so might as well send the review to u oso =P
This is my 3 months evaluation:
1) Don't allow printing of random pages, eg "pg 1-3, 6, 8, 10-13, 18". But Adobe Reader can do this.
2) Overly customised printing orientation can make user confuse.
3) Some docs printed fr Foxit Reader to sch's printer gives werid fonts with black highlights.
4) Dunno why some files when opened with Foxit Reader is unable to be opened by Adobe Reader anymore. Gives error in opening or when viewing halfway gives page out of range problem. Problem solved by redownloading the files and overwriting them again
5) Difficult to change default back to Adobe Reader after setting default to Foxit Reader. Icon of FR still remains on pdf attachments in emails, IE still use FR to open my pdf files. Problem seemed to have solved afer I upgraded my AR fr version 9 to 10.
6) Nvr remove all related files during uninstallation. Hv to remove them manually after uninstallation!
Conclusion: I don't like Foxit Reader...
If you want to edit your notes in their pdf format, you can try using PDF X-change Viewer. It's free.
Just a note about speaking during tutorial. It's better to sound stupid during tutorial than to write something stupid during the exams. Isn't it great that you are even rewarded for it?
It's a tutorial for christ sake, not a meeting with your future employer. Sound stupid, clear your doubts and learn something from it.
This is coming from someone who went from the quietest to the nosiest guy in class.
